About us

Turning competitors into colleagues

Sole practitioners carry a firm's full compliance load, pay retail prices for their tools and work alone. SOLO Together fixes all three without asking anyone to give up their independence.

How the network works

Get to know each other. Trust each other. Value each other. Then back each other up.

Support only works between people who know and trust each other. That's why SOLO Together is not a list of strangers. It brings members together through regular, real contact.

  1. Get to know each other

Regular catch-ups, small peer circles and BAS-deadline coffees, so you meet the people behind the practices near you.

  2. Trust each other

Share templates, talk through tricky files and see how others work. Trust grows from small things done well.

  3. Value each other

Every member brings different strengths, such as SMSF, property, small business or a second language. We recognise them and refer to them.

  4. Back each other up

When someone is ill, on leave or snowed under, a colleague they already know and trust steps in, under our Relief and Backup Code.

Compliance load

TPB Code obligations have expanded, and AML/CTF Tranche 2 now covers accountants who provide designated services. These overheads hit a one-person practice hardest.

Cost

PI insurance, practice software and CPD are priced for individual buyers, with no volume discount.

Isolation

No one to cover leave, no second opinion on a tricky matter, no succession plan, and client referrals that go to strangers.

What we are

A members' association, run on a not-for-profit basis

SOLO Together is run by SOLO Together Pty Ltd, a not-for-profit company. Its constitution locks in our purpose: it can never pay dividends or distribute profits to anyone, every dollar goes back into the association, and any surplus on winding up must go to a similar not-for-profit. Members keep their own practices, brands, clients, registrations and insurance. Members do not share fees or profits, and the association does not provide tax, BAS, financial or credit services in its own name.

How we are governed

Full members elect a Members' Council, which nominates the directors and must agree before any change to our purpose, our not-for-profit rules or member fees. The board of 3 to 7 directors includes practitioners from tax or BAS, bookkeeping, and advice or credit, so no single discipline dominates. Committees cover membership and ethics, and finance and risk. Every year we publish a simple report of income and spending to members.

The Member Code

  • Every member stays independent.
  • No discussion of fees or prices in any forum or meeting.
  • Referral fees are disclosed to clients in writing.
  • Client consent comes before any information is shared.
  • Registration, licences and PI cover are kept current.
  • A clear complaints process for clients and members.
